Hamlet Essay: (Intro)
Question: How does the loss of a loved one affect one’s life?

The gravity of the loss of a life can have varying affects on many corresponding individuals. For example, in the play, Hamlet, the theme of death which is constantly replayed has a great influence on each character. Specifically, when one character is murdered, another reacts to their loss in a certain manner. Therefore, the loss of a loved one can drive a person to insanity, depression, or irrepressible rage. This will be shown through the emotions displayed by Hamlet, Ophelia and Laertes, who all suffer through the death of their loved ones.

Hamlet Assignment 2- To Be or Not to Be

A Day in the Life- The Beatles

I read the news today oh boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh
I saw the photograph
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure
If he was from the House of Lords.

I saw a film today oh boy
The English Army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
but I just had to look
Having read the book
I'd love to turn you on

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
and Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.
I'd love to turn you on

1.You have just received your responses from your university applications. You did not get in to any schools you applied to. You will not be attending university in the fall.

Why me?
I worked harder than anyone.
What happened to “with hard work you can achieve anything?”
All liars, creating a false hope to so many.
Only so each can feel and surrender to the pain of rejection.
How will I continue on knowing my existence consists only of failure and remorse?
Just like a vase, crashing to the ground, dreams can be so easily broken and the sudden realization of complete failure ushers in.
Oh God, if only I could be so easily broken and let the pain of my vain attempt at a dream disappear with me.
All I can feel is my utter self loathing, “why am I such a fool?” “You were so pompous and self confident... Disgusting.”
All that is left is a shell of a far too arrogant person of the past.
All I can taste is the sweetness of death on my tongue.
The ounce of warmth left glowing from my parents, so forgiving, so understanding.
“Life goes on” they say, “one more year in school and you can try again”.
Their support so warm only prevents me from completing the one task which can be done so easily.
If only my pain was purely physical, to be simply healed over time.
Instead, my heartache will continue for wasting my life in a span of 4 years.
The never ending disgust and sorrow which fills me draws me to black.
Like a broken clock my time has ceased to exist.
Like the pages of a book ripped and torn.
Close the cover, my book is closed.

Bill, Bingo and Bram

Bill, Bingo and Bram is a story about the past and being unable to let go. Write a 300 word response on the powerful hold that the past can have on an individual. In what ways does the past have a hold on you? In what ways can the past be more uncertain than the future? Which is more interesting, the past or the potential future? Why?

The past is a passage of time which records the history of the world to facilitate the understanding of human beings. The past, being an ambiguous state of time is strongly connected to many, including myself in the form of rock and roll from the time between the fifties, to the eighties. Personally, the history of rock and roll is something I am truly dedicated to, specifically; musicians from the fifties, such as Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley who are basic founders of rock and roll. They were able to pave the way for later artist who became inspired by this new form of music, including artists such as the Beatles. During the sixties, one of my favorite times for music, was the time of the British invasion bands. This was the era of artists such as the Beatles, the Kinks and Simon and Garfunkel. In this period of time, lyrics began becoming more complex and growing in meaning as the psychedelic era began to take over. By, the early seventies, it was completely predominant where artists like Elton John really began to take root. And finally, by the eighties, there was a dramatic change in style where punk music by artists such as the Ramones, the Clash, and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts began to develop. Therefore, through the passage of time, I find the trends in rock and roll clearly obvious because of my obsession with music from the time period from the fifties, to the early eighties, and with my dedication to these renowned musicians I find that they each represent music from their specific time periods in history greatly, connecting me to the past.

The past and future have a strong correlation to one another, however the past can be more uncertain than the future because only certain things from the past can be remembered. After a certain point, things from the past will start to become forgotten, however, with the uncertainty of the future; one can still work hard to increase their chances at their current aspirations. Although my beliefs about the past differ with the concept of an uncertain future because I believe the past is an experience which is necessary to reach the future, and therefore is something far more interesting because it shows the progress of man over time. When dealing with the past, humans are able to learn and discover about their history rather than to be “blind” or insecure and leave one’s future partially to chance.

2. At the beginning of the video, B. Yung says that God has put a voice inside of him, one that he cannot ignore. What has God put inside of you that you cannot ignore?

God has put a determination to succeed inside of me which I cannot ignore. It is said that success is being able to complete a task efficiently, or by earning some type of superior status in life. However, I believe that success is finding what a person’s true purpose is and making it directly related to aspects in their personality to truly enjoy their career choice. The idealism of what I believe success is depicts the many things which I wish to achieve in life before I become an adult, get married, and grow old. Therefore, by finding my ideal career, I will be able to fully enjoy my growth into complete adulthood and follow many of my aspirations. I am unable to ignore my will to succeed which thrives within me because there are still many tasks left undone which I deem necessary to complete in order to live a comfortable life. For example, to succeed would mean to graduate from high school and enter a proper university, where one can enhance their level of knowledge until granted a degree, and finally enter the work place as a financially stable adult. By ending a series of wearisome study, one is able to enjoy the spoils of their hard work, and may see fit to spend the money which they deservedly earned. During this time period, after all hard work is done, and pay checks earned begin to come in at a steady rate, one may choose to begin their travels around the world which may have originally been out of their reach financially, and finally indulge in their success. In conclusion, my drive to achieve success, which is something I feel God has put inside of me, is a long and struggle filled path; however at the end of it lies true success and pride.
